Universal Account Number:
Universal Account number shortly called as UAN. This is the 12 digits unique number given to every member of EPF. UAN number does not change in your lifetime. You may change many jobs but this UAN number will be constant. At present Unemployed people can also get the UAN number. UAN activation is compulsory for the use of online facilities of EPFO (Employee provident fund organization)

How to activate your UAN through the member portal:
- Visit the official website for EPF unified portal https://unifiedportal-mem.epfindia.gov.in/memberinterface/
- Click on the Activate UAN option
- You will redirect “Activate your uan” page
- Fill the required details like uan number (provided by company), member ID, PAN, name, date of birth, mobile number, emailed and captcha
- Click on “Get Authorization Pin” button
- For confirmation, you are using the information confidential. There will be OTP received to your registered mobile number
- Entered received OTP and click on the “Validate OTP and Activate UAN” button
- After that sign in your EPF account and password is same at the time of activation
UAN activation through the mobile app:
- Download the EPF app from the Google play store and iTunes store
- This app will directly available in EPFO official website
- This app is useful for the pensioners, employer, and employee
- Then open the app in your device and choose the members option
- Select activate UAN among UAN passbook and activation
- In UAN panel enter your UAN number. If you don’t know the UAN number then generate the UAN by requesting in UAN portal
- Next fill the details of PF number, name, mobile number, date of birth, etc
- Click on the Activate button
- Then the UAN activation is successfully completed
UAN activation through SMS:
The process to activate UAN through SMS, people sends the SMS to 7738299899 number. This SMS service can use for accessing details for the PF contribution amount, EPF balance etc.
- To activate UAN through SMS to this number 7738299899
- This is useful for smartphones also computers
- Send EPFOHO ACT 12 digit UAN number and 22 digits member id from your mobile
- If you are the EPF member then highly recommended that you get your UAN activated
- The UAN number is valid till your membership has active also regardless of whether you change jobs
